Our Story

Hair Essence was established in 1991 as the result of my working three jobs to save enough money to design and implement a professional, yet welcoming environment in which we could offer our clients multiple services. I give God the Glory for allowing several individuals to believe in my goals, and help to make my dreams a reality when no financial institution would grant a 23-year-old Black female a business loan or grant. Despite this obstacle, I managed to open the doors of Hair Essence, then located at 1144 Joseph Avenue, on November 11, 1991, and we have been going strong ever since, thanks to all of the wonderful Rochesterians, people from Buffalo, Syracuse, and other surrounding counties that we have had the pleasure to serve. We hope to continue to bless you with the #EssenceEffect for many years to come. Again, thank you for your continued patronage, and thank you to all of the "Die Hards" who supported me for the past 28 years. We appreciate your support of this female-owned small Black business... Growth is on the horizon... it is time to move forward!
